Roomba 635 vs 690 Reviews, Differences, & a Comparison Chart

The introduction of robotic vacuum cleaners a couple of decades ago had literally set a revolution into action. It was an invention that had begun a trend that was destined to alter the way ordinary people would clean their houses. So far, the iRobot has successfully been able to influence the vacuum cleaning industry, thanks to its highly innovative, supportive, and creative invention. We are going to discuss the Roomba 635 vs 690.

Ever since the first Roomba robot was introduced, technology has made considerable signs of progress. The features that our modern-day robot provides you with were literally unimaginable a few years ago. No one, for example, could have visualized two decades ago that we’d have robots vacuum cleaners that would be able to self-charge and then resume cleaning until they were done.

That’s exactly what we are about to look at in this blog. This write up discusses two of the best robots manufactured by iRobot. They are both parts of the Roomba 600 series. This line of iRobot vacuum cleaners is capable of saving you hundreds of hours with the push of a single button.

Users ought to know that both robots happen to have similarities with regard to their basic structure. For instance, both the Roomba 635 and the 690 make use of quality cutting-edge technology for navigation purposes. They are equipped with the same type of technology, which facilitates them in moving around the property to ensure proper cleaning. Also, they both have a self-charge feature. This allows them to return to the charging station when their battery runs low during the cleaning, and then resume the cleaning after they have charged themselves completely. These are some of the common features available with both the Roomba 635 and the Roomba 690.

However, they are not entirely the same. Despite the fact that both robots belong to the same series, there still are certain differences in features between them. It is critical for one to be aware of when and where the two models differ from each other.

Let’s begin our review of both devices from the cleaning technology they are equipped with.

Cleaning Technology

When it comes to cleaning technology, both the Roomba 635 and the Roomba 690 are the same EXCEPT for one key difference. But before that, let’s have an understanding of this technology they have been equipped with.

These devices belonging to the Roomba 600 series offer similar functionality on the ground. Nonetheless, this doesn’t reduce the importance of having an understanding of those design elements, which would make these robots function.

The Roomba 635 and the Roomba 690 both contain what is called the “3-stage cleaning” system. The significance of this system lies in the fact that it brings into use multiple mechanisms that ensure that each particle of the dust is adequately taken off the floor, and space is fully vacuumed. There are dual multi-surface brushes that enable these machines to do proper cleaning of your hard floors by digging into the pile of the carpet.

These robots have a strong suction power that sucks all debris and dust particles the soon they are loosened by the brush. Moreover, there’s a spinning edge-sweeping brush that can comfortably access hard-to-reach spaces, ensuring thorough cleaning of the property. This one feature should be enough to convince one of the importance of having one of these robotic vacuum cleaners into their homes.

While the above-mentioned features are common with both 635 and the 690, there is one important point of difference between them.

The Roomba 690 has what is called the ‘Dual Mode Virtual Wall Barrier” feature. This barrier is a small-sized handy device that can be placed at the entrance to the adjacent room or space that you don’t want the Roomba to enter and clean. This small device basically creates a virtual barrier visible only to the Roomba, preventing it from entering the area you have restricted. This is just one key difference between the two robots in terms of their cleaning efficiency.

If you ask our verdict here with regards to cleaning, we would be forced to side with the Roomba 690 because of the added feature of the virtual wall barrier. Even though you can also buy this for your 635 yet, it is still great convenience with the 690 as it already comes packaged with this amazing virtual barrier.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

Roomba 690

This gives you excellent connectivity with the Wi-Fi networks. Because of this feature, you can easily enjoy unfettered access to what is called the iRobot Home application. This app lets you handle your device remotely, even when you are away from home. Using a Wi-Fi-connected app lets you do things like receive updates, schedule cleaning, and keep an eye on the vacuum from any location. All can be done simply from your smartphone.

Moreover, as soon as you connect this machine with a network, it comfortably interacts with other smart-home features such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. When the Roomba 690 is connected to the features of a smart home, you can also easily control him with a voice command.

Roomba 635

Unlike the 690, this Roomba vacuum cleaner doesn’t support logging into a network. However, that doesn’t mean it lacks the ability to provide you with great cleaning results. Just because the Roomba 635 has no connectivity with a Wi-Fi network bears no impact on its usefulness as against its competitor. However, you will need to reactivate the Roomba manually whenever you need to do its job. This feature may be attractive for customers who have no particular liking for apps and smart-home systems, but it certainly has its restrictions.

In our opinion, the Roomba 690 clearly takes the lead. The fact that you can connect it to the Wi-Fi network provides you with more control and greater access to a range of features as compared to the Roomba 635.

The users of the smart-home technology are always desirous of ensuring that their vacuum cleaner is able to interface with the smart systems of their home. That’s where the Roomba 690 steals a clear march over the 635!

Scheduling Feature

Roomba 690

As mentioned above, this device may be controlled using a smartphone app called iHome. Using this application, you can issue instructions to this Roomba as to when the cleaning of the home has to start. Moreover, users can always schedule cleaning with the smartphone application even if you are away from home! As long as you and the robot have access to the internet, controlling the Roomba 690 should be no problem!

Roomba 635

Compared to the Roomba 690, it is not possible to schedule the 635. This means that whenever you need to clean the floors using the vacuum, you will be relying on the onboard controls to activate the machine.

Nonetheless, the robot will still provide you great utility even if it doesn’t have this feature. So, if you are in the home and need cleaning, the Roomba 635 is your friend!

Let’s now review each robot separately and assess its features and qualities in detail.

Review: Roomba 690

There is hardly any feeling better than that of coming home to a tidy and well-kept house. Even if the floors are the only part that is cleaned, half of your cleaning load is taken off. That is where the Roomba 690 comes to your aid.

This is a device that is a cost-effective robotic vacuum cleaner that provides you the facility of being able to clean your home while you are away. In addition to this, the Roomba 690 blesses a user with several other great features that are worthy of a detailed mention.

That’s what we plan on doing in the following lines.

1-  Design

The Roomba 690 comes with a circular design and weighs 7.8-pound. The machine measures 13” in diameter coupled with plastic bumpers around its edge.

The center of the machine contains three buttons, namely, clean, spot, and home. The clean button basically works as another power button. The spot option is what you need if you are looking to do a thorough spot cleaning and when the robot has done its task, you might want to press the home button to send it back to its home base! This is the simple yet effective design of the Roomba 690.

2-  Height

The height of the Roomba 690 is 3.7-inches, and this definitely proves to be an important advantage for the users. With this much height, the Roomba is perfectly capable of providing cleaning to areas that are not easily accessible. You can, for example, use the Roomba under the kitchen cabinets, sofas, and chairs. The device can also efficiently suck all the dirt and dust particles that cannot be cleaned using a regular vacuum cleaner. That’s an important feature of the Roomba 690

3-  Easy to Set-up

One of the many important reasons you should get this Roomba for remains its ability to be set up without any difficulty. You only need a very limited space to install the cleaner, and you can get it ready quickly.

As per the manual, the base of the Roomba 690 should be ideally based in a location where there is at least a distance of 1.5-feet on the three sides, and for the front, space should be at least 4 feet. Compared to the shark Ion, this is a much smaller area.

Even though the cleaning gets activated as soon as you press the big “Clean” button on the front of the device, the real action comes when you start using the iRobot app! There are clear and easy-to-follow instructions that guide you through the process of connecting the Roomba 690 to the Wi-Fi network of your home. A female voice coming from within the Roomba lets you know when it is connected to the network.

On the home screen of the application, you can see the cleaning status and the battery level, and there are options that you can explore to learn about the history and performance job! Depending on your personal convenience, users are allowed to set the Roomba on cleaning once a day or a weekly schedule.

4-  Excellent Cleaning Capability

The “Clean” is the finest and only power option the Roomba 690 has. If you set the machine for cleaning on the first floor, you should brace yourself for great results. The vacuum cleaner is fully capable of identifying and adjusting itself through different types of floor surfaces, doormats, carpets, and area rugs. It consistently makes way through the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and the living room.

As each part has a different floor type, you will be surprised to see the intelligence with which the Roomba 690 moves through these areas.

Generally speaking, the Roomba 690 has countless amazing features and offers. You need to try it to trust it!

Review: Roomba 635

Now that we have had sufficient discussion on the features of the Roomba 690 let’s turn our attention to the other device: the Roomba 635!

The Roomba 635 is a perfect choice for those who have no wireless communications, and their devices are not compatible with the applications. If this is the case, then you don’t need to spend money on more expensive devices that are connectable with the wireless networks and can be managed through smartphone applications.

This machine is an excellent choice for those who lack access to mobile phones and don’t need to rely on smartphone applications to run the cleaning chores in their homes. The Roomba 635 is slowly dying out of fashion, but there are some good reasons as to why you should get one for yourself.

1-  Battery

The Roomba 635 has a battery made out of Nickle-Metal Hydride (NiMH). This is the type of battery that is far less advanced than the lithium-ion batteries installed in newer Roomba devices. While it is true that some models from the 600 series were manufactured with Li-Ion batteries, the 635 was not among them.

If there are a lot of rooms to be cleaned, the device’s battery may dry up. When that happens, the Roomba 635 goes to the charging station, charges itself, and returns to the cleaning until everything is carefully done.

2-  Filters

The airflow and filtration system of the Roomba 635 is called “AeroVac”, and it is the oldest filtration system in the Roomba devices. This system enables the device to suck and filter out the particles of dust and grime into it.

The purpose with which these filters have been designed is to ensure that the motor remains neat and clean from the dust buildup. However, the filtration system of this device is not as good as the HEPA certified filters.

3-  Quality Sensors

The device has been equipped with great quality sensors. These powerful detectors allow the Roomba 635 to move across your home for cleaning purposes. The device does not have any laser-backed sensors or cameras that are snapping photos of the surroundings as it moves about. As a matter of fact, you will see that there are acoustic and infrared sensors that will make sure that the robot stays in line on the ground so that all your floors are effectively cleaned.

Which is Better? Roomba 635 vs 690

Having had a bird’s eye view over the features and qualities that the Roombas 635 and the 690 have to offer to the user, one should be easily able to make a decision.

However, you can make the decision easier by ascertaining what your needs are. A lot of consumers are still in doubt regarding their personal preferences and needs.

Despite the fact that the Roomba 690 is slightly advanced, if you don’t have a smartphone reliance or wireless network connectivity, then the Roomba 635 would most certainly be the best choice for you.

As can be seen through the chart, each of these robots has some unique features to offer. There are some features that are commonly found between the two robots, and there are certain things that are exclusive to each device.

The iRobot Roomba 650 and 980 are magnificent in their own unique manner. Naturally, it should be understood that an older version of an electronic device cannot compete with a more modern and advanced version. In the same way, the Roomba 650 cannot really be a good match to the later 980 Roomba in terms of providing better cleaning service.

It is important to understand that both the Roombas happen to be two distinctively different machines for all intents and purposes. Each of these vacuums is a cutting edge representation of how far the robot vacuum technology has progressed to date.

Before we even start to comment on each machine separately, let’s just understand a few basic facts. The 900 series has made considerable progress since the 600 series was introduced into the market, which was back in 2012. From the navigation system to the addition of a Wi-Fi-enabled system, almost every aspect of these machines has improved with the 900 iRobot Roomba series.

We will mention below the similarities between the two robots, followed by the differences between them. From there, we will also review each robot independently to assess their capabilities in their own right.

Similarities between the Roomba 650 and the Roomba 980

Access to Settings

Both Roomba 650 and 980 are accessible from the top of their respective units. The users are allowed to program them for a 7-day cleaning routine for definable time intervals. The clean button will also help you start the cleaning process.

Suitable For Different Surfaces

One of the amazing features of these devices is that they are both capable of cleaning virtually any type of floor surface. Whether you have carpet, tile, laminate, rugs, hardwood, or any other type of flooring, both Roomba 650 and 980 will do a great job.

Each of these robots has a self-adjusting capability as they transfer from one type of flooring to another.

3-Stage Cleaning Formula

The Roomba 650 and 980 are both equipped with what is arguably iRobot’s best feature: the 3-stage cleaning system.

This system comprises conducting cleaning operations in 3 stages: agitating, brushing, and sucking dirt, and debris off the floor.

Spinning Brush

Each vacuum cleaner comes with a spinning side brush. The benefit of this brush is that it can effectively clean all dirt and debris in all such areas that usually remain untouched owing to these Roombas’ circular shape. This brush offers cleaning in those aspects as well.

Acoustic Sensors

In order to locate dirtier areas inside the building, both the Roomba 650 and 980 employ what is called acoustic sensors.

Consequently, the bots pay more time and attention to these areas so that they are also thoroughly cleaned without leaving behind any particles of dirt or dust.

Auto Charge Facility

One of the best things about these devices is that you don’t have to worry about their battery. They can automatically detect when their batteries are running low. As soon as it happens, they return to the charging station. Once charged, they will resume their vacuuming operation!

As can be seen in the above, both devices have an incredible set of features common among them. Let’s now move on to the next section, where we talk about where these machines differ from each other.

Differences between Roomba 650 vs 980

Optical Sensor

Though they are present in both machines, the optical sensors in the Roomba 980 have been upgraded to support the robot in detecting dirty areas around the house. The optical sensor in 980 is now coupled with an acoustic sensor, which enhances its ability to find and clean the debris from your home.

Debris Extractors

Unlike the Roomba 650, which uses a brush, the 980 comes with an extra set of rubberized debris extractors. The benefit of these rubber extractors is that they can transfer the debris into the trash bin far more easily than the brush. Another benefit of these extractors is that they don’t require much manual intervention because the frequency of tangled hair with it is now greatly reduced.

Carpet Boost

This is a rather unique feature installed into the Roomba 980. The carpet boos enhance the suction power of the vacuum up to ten times. Thanks to such high intensity, the battery of the device is preserved for an even greater and more efficient use when it is performing a cleaning session.

Upgraded Motors

With the Roomba 980, the iRobot has finally decided to upgrade its power by adding a third generation motor. The key benefit of using this motor is that it is equipped with greater power and efficiency as compared to the older version of the Roomba devices. So far, this is the most powerful of the motors to ever come installed into the Roomba machines.

Having had a brief review of their similar features, let us now proceed to discuss each robot individually.

Review: The Roomba 650

In terms of price, the Roomba 650 is for sure the lowest-priced vacuum cleaner by iRobot available out there. The Roomba 650 has been on the market for a couple of years now, and its demand doesn’t really seem to be diminishing.

One shouldn’t be surprised at this. There is a good reason as to why Roomba 650 has managed to stay relevant despite multiple generations of Roomba robots having been launched. The key factor being that the Roomba 650 is a highly trusted and reliable model that has zero frills, and it just works perfectly.

Despite lacking in several advanced features such as a refined design or a command center, the Roomba 650 efficiently makes up for this deficiency with its simple yet effective raw power. This makes it an ideal device to be had in one’s home.

This machine has a highly powerful and effective design. There is a brush in it that is capable of removing dirt from every nook and corner of the building. The brush is an important reason why it has been so successful in retaining its best-selling position. The 650 is regarded among the most desirable Roomba device, owing to its incredible features. Another reason that contributes to the popularity of this device is its features coupled with an affordable price.

Despite the fact that Roomba 650 lacks the latest iAdapt navigation technology with which 980 is equipped, it can still provide you a thorough cleaning of the area using its advanced software and sensors. These sensors allow the device to pick from scores of robotic behaviors at the pace of 60 times a second! This is how the Roomba 650 is able to clean a lot of room, ensuring better quality by making multiple passes over every major section of the floor. This deep cleaning facility is definitely a great feature the Roomba 650 has to boast about!

In every household, there are areas that are the toughest to clean. Accessing them is a real challenge, thereby discouraging manual cleaning. With the Roomba 650, this difficulty of yours is fully dealt with. The machine has what is called a low-profile design, which makes it convenient to a slider under sofas and chairs to effectively vacuum up all types of dirt and dust. It is worth mentioning that the robot is only 3.6-inches in height! The same as 980.

However, it is important to bear in mind that the device is not without its issues. There are some important downsides to the Roomba 650 as well, and you should be considerate about them before making a purchase decision. A fundamental problem with the Roomba 650 is its filtration system. For surfaces that gather allergens routinely, the 650 is not an ideal vacuum cleaner. It has an average capacity to filter out the allergens from the floor. Households with pets running around, the Roomba 880 might be a better choice as compared to the 650.

The brushes are another element to consider when buying this machine. That’s because brushes are long out of fashion now. In the subsequent models of the iRobot Roombas, they have been replaced with better and more sophisticated technology. The newer model Roomba devices such as the 980 are brushless, and they don’t really rely on these features.

This brief review of the Roomba 650 should sufficiently tell you some great features about this device. Now, let’s look at the other vacuum cleaner that is subject of this blog.

The device comes with a built-in camera which it uses to create a map of your home. This mapping facilitates the Roomba in cleaning your floors with greater efficiency and better results. The Roomba 980 also has a great battery performance. The life of the batter is fairly long as compared to the 650, and it definitely performs better in this regard.

It is a highly efficient cleaner that is profoundly focused on ensuring the best results. This is the reason why the Roomba 980 will keep doing the cleaning until it is totally run out of battery. Once its battery is drained, the device goes back to the charging dock, recharges itself, and then resumes its function. The robot doesn’t stop until the cleaning is fully done. This is what sharply distinguishes the Roomba 980 from the Roomba 650! The latter robot lacks the auto-recharge feature, meaning you have to intervene manually so that it doesn’t stop in the middle of the cleaning job.

The list of features of the Roomba 980 doesn’t end here. There’s more to mention. One of the many important qualities of this device is that as soon as it comes into contact with the thicker carpet, the Roomba 980 will automatically increase its power. This is made possible by a built-in feature called carpet boost. Another feature of the Roomba 980 is its ability to be used with a smartphone app. Through this application, you can definitely schedule the cleaning at your convenience. The benefit of this app is that you are allowed to control and manage the cleaning even when you are away from home. This means that when you are running on a tight schedule, this feature is going to be your support in ensuring that your home is fully cleaned and protected from all types of dirt and debris.

Generally speaking, the Roomba 980 blesses you with numerous great features that you can make use of to derive benefits. These advantages are certainly unique to this machine as this happens to be the most advanced and reliable of all other Roomba models. You can also not find something that gives you awesome features as the Roomba 980!

However, the price is a great downside. Since it is equipped with such amazing features, it should be expected to have a high price tag. As of now, the Roomba 980 is the most expensive and costliest robot vacuum cleaner available out there. The features it blesses you with are definitely worth the cost, only if one could afford it!

There should be no doubt that as of now, the Roomba 980 is the best and the most advanced Roomba device in the market. It is made with the best technology, and it can help you clean multiple rooms with varying floor types. As you use it, you have full control over its functions, and you can deploy it in as per your personal convenience.

Cleaning

The cleaning capability of a Roomba vacuum cleaner is the most crucial aspect to consider. Since this is the reason why people purchase a vacuum cleaner, one needs to be fully aware of the cleaning potential of each of these models.

Roomba 960 Cleaning

Unlike older models, the Roomba 960’s suction power is much lower. It also has better airpower as compared to the 880 but a little less than what the Roomba 980 exhibits. However, this difference is almost invisible when the Roomba 960 is working on different flooring types.

Roomba 880 Cleaning

As the less advanced model, the Roomba 880’s cleaning power is five times lower than the 960. But the device offers excellent results when used on any traditional household flooring. The Roomba 880 is fully capable of providing you with the results that you desire to achieve.

Navigation

The iRobot is known for its impactful iAdapt navigation system. Fortunately, both the Roomba 880 and the 960 come with this feature. Nonetheless, they vary in the way they make use of their navigation system.

Since the Roomba 960 is a newer model, it has a relatively better navigation feature as compared to the Roomba 880. However, the 880 has benefits to offer in its own right.

The Battery Life

One should be in no doubt that the Roomba 880 has an impressive battery life to boast. The timing of its battery is undoubtedly far better than the previous models. However, it is the newer Roomba 960 that takes the lead in this regard.

The 960 has a battery made of highly durable material called Lithium-Ion, and it can last for over 2 hours. On the other hand, the Roomba 880 has a shorter battery life that works for up to 90 minutes on a single charge.

Design

Who doesn’t enjoy the sight of beauty? The same goes for vacuum cleaners. Everybody wants to have a robotic vacuum cleaner that features an elegant and classy design. After all, who doesn’t prefer a machine that blends with perfection with the natural environment of the surroundings?

Instead of rushing to spend hundreds of dollars, it would always be better to fully understand each and everything about the device you are interested in. Therefore, it will be better for a consumer to make sure that they are aware of the features and functionalities of their preferred machine.

This review mentions some useful things one needs to learn about the Roomba 880.

Features Of the Roomba 880

We will begin by mentioning certain essential features the Roomba 880 has to offer.

One of the many incredible features of the Roomba 880 is its ability to clean multiple rooms at a time. When its battery dries, the device can self-charge. There is an effective scheduling system which you can rely on because of its simple programmability.

As other iRobot products, the Roomba 880 has a “3-Stage cleaning” system. This means that the device conducts cleaning operation in three stages. Another feature of the 880 is that there are tangle-free AeroForce extractors with it.

It is because of these extractors that the Roomba 880 stands out as a quality brushless robot vacuum cleaner. One of the many great features of the 880 is its ability to suck out any debris quickly.

Let’s also not forget about the highly influential and efficient filters of the Roomba 880. Though keep in mind that you cannot wash these filters.

The Vacuum

The Roomba 880 happens to be a reasonably high-ended robotic vacuum cleaner. It’s only the second of the most technologically sophisticated machines launched by the iRobot.

You can buy the vacuum at an authorized iRobot store for $700! Using this machine means that you no longer have to worry about the charging as it can charge itself whenever there’s a need to do so.

The Roomba has a ‘multiple room navigation’ feature which enables it to clean three rooms simultaneously.

With the 880, you are sure to get reliable results. It has an iRobot X-life extended battery which means it can last longer as compared to older machines. The Roomba 880 gives you a high-class mixture of unique and unusual features.

Design

The robot weighs 8.4-pounds and gives you efficient cleaning. The Roomba’s height is 3.6-inches with a width of 13.9-inches. There is a carrying handle allowing the user to transport the machine to any location comfortably.

When it comes to design, the Roomba 880 features the existing design pattern of the iRobot. It is round in shape and has a power button fixed right in the middle.

Usability

One of the many great things about the Roomba 880 is that it is an easy-to-use device. Whether you need spot cleaning or regular cleaning, you can comfortably schedule the machine as per your convenience.

Moreover, you can also bring in further accessories that will help ensure that the Roomba 880 runs smoothly.

When you have the 880 working for you, no supervision is necessary. The Roomba is a self-sufficient device that requires minimum to none human interaction. There is also a remote control with which you can control the Roomba 880!

Performance

The Roomba 880 is a robotic vacuum cleaner that gives you an excellent performance. Its built-in sensors work perfectly.  The device gets prevented from falling because of the cliff sensors that don’t allow it to come anywhere near the stairs. Every time there are stairs nearby, these sensors get activated.

You can also use virtual walls to restrict the function of the Roomba only to the areas that you desire to clean.

Summarized Description

Based on the customer reviews and feedback, the Roomba 880 enjoys an impressive rating of 8.7 out of 10! That’s quite a score on proficiency.

The 880 also has an impressive score in terms of ease of programming and operation. For durability, the machine scores 9.6, which is somewhat higher than the average of 9.0 for other devices.

Noise levels and maneuverability are the least impressive aspects with the Roomba 880!

Final Comment

We’d like to happily declare that the Roomba 880 is the perfect choice for consumers who prefer durability and reliability in their machines. Because of its easy programming and remote control feature, it is an ideal vacuum cleaner for households with tight schedules.

Now that we have sufficiently covered the Roomba 880, let’s turn our attention towards the other device.

Review: Roomba 960

[su_button url=”https://www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-960-Connectivity-Carpets/dp/B01ID8H6NO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=roomba880vs960-20&linkId=428143a2e6b97773d2b16451b1ff8796&language=en_US” target=”blank” style=”flat” background=”#32CC32″ color=”#ffffff” size=”10″ wide=”no” center=”no” radius=”8″ icon=”icon:shopping-cart” rel=”nofollow” class=”bestvacbutton”]Check Best Price of Roomba 960 [/su_button]

Whenever you think about robot vacuum cleaners, Roomba is often the first one to come to mind. This popularity bears witness to the success of the iRobot and its powerful machines.

The 960 is iRobot’s one of the elitist offerings that includes features such as camera-guided navigation, Wi-Fi connectivity, app-based controllability and many more.

The Design

Should it surprise anyone that iRobot has fashioned all of its subsequent cleaners on the model of its first-gen machines? The only difference is the improvement in features and specifications that come with each successive generation.

The Roomba 960 weighs 8.5-pounds and has a measurement of about 13.8 x 3.6-inches. There is a huge ‘clean’ button fixed on top of the robot somewhere between the ‘home’ button and ‘spot cleaning’ button. This is the point where you can manually control the cleaner.

There is a camera installed at the front side of the Roomba 960 which makes navigation simpler and easier. The dust bin is attached at the back of the device.

Simple Yet Effective Functionality

What makes the Roomba 960 distinguished from the rest of the machines is its smoothness. The device doesn’t hit any object and runs smoothly. It has strong sensors that enable it to detect the hurdles in its path, allowing it to prevent them with effect.

If your home has multiple types of floors, cleaning them with the Roomba 960 shouldn’t be a problem! It can comfortably move around the surface, making sure every nook and corner is cleaned. When going from a hardwood entryway onto the living-room carpet, the Roomba 960 goes without any challenge.

There are ‘virtual wall barriers’ that you can put in place to prevent the Roomba from entering into spaces that you don’t want to clean. This wall barrier essentially releases a cone-shaped barrier that only the Roomba can see. Thanks to this feature, the 960 is just excellent at cleaning.

Battery Life and Mobile-Based Control

Once charged, the 960 can efficiently do the cleaning for about 70 to 75 minutes. In case the battery runs low while there is still room to clean, the Roomba automatically goes to the dock for a recharge and then resumes cleaning after its charging is finished. The cycle keeps repeating until the cleaning is fully done!

On average, it takes between 45 to 60 minutes for the Roomba 960 to conduct a thorough cleanup of a traditional space. However, the duration may increase depending on the dirt lying on the floor. The Roomba comes with a dust bin attached to its back that keeps filling as it operates around the surface, picking up debris. In case the dust bin is full during the cleaning, the Roomba will let the owner know by sending an alert on their smartphone.

When it happens, the user pauses the cleaning from their smartphone application. The cleaning restarts once the dust bin is cleaned.

Here’s the great news. The user can do each of the functions described in this para straight from their smartphone. All you need to do is to connect your phone with the Roomba through an application. Moreover, when you set the cleaning to automatic mode, the 960 will clean every single area by itself without having you involved.

3-Stage Cleaning Feature

Just like all other Roomba devices, the 960 has an AeroForce 3-Stage cleaning feature. For all practical reasons and benefits, this feature is more or less the same as found in the Roomba’s 800 series! The only difference lies in the strength of this system.

In the 960 model, the 3-Stage cleaning system comes with more power, resulting in a great outcome. The Roomba 960 has a suction power which is five times stronger than the older models. This facilitates it in sucking and cleaning even the harshest elements of the debris that are usually left unpicked. The two brush extractors contribute to this strength of the Roomba 960.

Quality Optical Sensors

The Roomba 960 is also blessed with high-quality optical sensors just like its predecessors of the 800 series. These are powerful, acoustic sensors allowing the 960 to distinguish the hardwood floor from the rug flooring.

Despite containing a persistent pass, the Roomba 960 follows a strictly straight-line pattern. This happens due to the update from the manufacturer. Not only does the Roomba 960 have tracking sensors, but its vSLAM technology also enhances its cleaning capability to a high degree.

Our Final Opinion

For households and properties with large surfaces and areas to clean, fewer devices can compete with what the iRobot has to offer.

The Roomba 880 and the 960 are both fully capable of providing you with a thorough cleaning of more than single floors in your building. Whether you have a carpet to clean or you need to remove fringe from a rug, the Roombas 880 and 960 have got your back.

Another reason you must get either of these two models is their ability to be connected to the Wi-Fi and be controlled through the smartphone application.

However, despite being relatively advanced and sophisticated, you shouldn’t be negligent of the differences that exist between the two robots, however minor.

As the 960 is the latecomer to the market, you should expect it to be more advanced and sufficient than any of its predecessors.

The reports suggesting that 890 can work for up to 120 minutes on a single charge are yet to be verified , yet it does perform better than the battery of the Roomba 880.

3-Stage Cleaning System

How well and to what extent a Roomba robot is capable of cleaning the place has always remained a point of discord concerning all the products made by Roomba. Why this point is important is because, when a customer purchases a cleaning robot, their aim is to utilize the machine to its best extent.  And we all want a vacuum that works!

Being an older model, the Roomba 621 model has a lower suction power than Roomba 761, which is more recent and technologically advanced.

Navigation Feature

Almost every device made by iRobot comes with an iAdapt navigation system. This feature lies at the heart of all the devices made by iRobot. This system is very beneficial because it ensures that the robots are able to navigate properly in a room. This helps the device in conducting the cleaning operations with greater efficiency. However, it should be borne in mind that differences still exist between the two robots as to the usability and applicability of this feature.

The Roomba 761, being a newer model, has a better visual localization, which ensures and promises better navigation features.

The Design

It is natural for users to want to have a good-looking robot. In addition to performance, the good appearance of a robot is always a plus point. One cannot blame the individual for their desire to want to aim for a cleaning product that comes off as elegant-looking and attractive other than its ability to blend into the furniture of the surroundings.

For interested customers, it should be a matter of great satisfaction that both Roomba 761 and 621 have an elegant and attractive design. Despite the fact that the two are different, they both have designs that are unique and attractive in their own right. The décor of your room will improve to a great degree when you have either of these workings in the area.

Accessories

Having had a look at the comparison chart, we now proceed to discuss each of these robots in more detail. We’ll begin by looking at the differences leading to further viewpoints.

Key Differences Between Roomba 880 And Roomba 960

Cleaning

The cleaning performance is typically a point of contention on all Roomba product reviews, as Roomba robots offer varying degrees of cleaning ability.

By comparison with older devices, the Roomba 960 model happens to have a lower suction power than the Roomba 980. With only 5 times airpower, Roomba 960 has half of the airpower as compared to the 980. However, the difference is not really noticeable when cleaning different surfaces.

Roomba 880, on the other hand, has 5x less cleaning power. This robot’s cleaning performance is still good for common household surfaces, though.

Navigation Feature

iRobot’s products are famous for their iAdapt navigation system. The significance of this system is that it effectively covers both Roomba 960 and Roomba 880. However, there still are differences in the way these two robots employ this new navigation system.

The newer model has a better visual localization which facilitates better navigation. So Roomba 880’s navigation is less advanced as compared to a newer Roomba 960.

Duration Of Battery Life

It is true that Roomba 880 has a better battery duration and lifespan in comparison to the previous models. However, newer iRobot models have clearly taken the lead. Roomba 960 offers a far greater battery lifespan than the 880. The former Roomba model has a highly durable Lithium-ion battery which can last for well over 120 minutes! This battery lifespan is fairly more than the 880 model that can only last up to 90 minutes at best.

The décor of your room will improve to a great degree when you have either of these robots workings in the area. One of these robots has a brownish gradient, whereas the other one comes with a classy, stylish black finish.

Roomba 880 also has the capability of self-charging and a working scheduling system that can be programmed easily.

Just like other Roomba products, the Roomba 880 also comes with the 3-stage cleaning system. Additionally, this Roomba also comes with tangle-free AeroForce extractors. These extractors are why this device is reckoned as a brushless robot vacuum. Since both these technologies are highly efficient in terms of servicing, this is the reason why they are placed on almost every iRobot. The 880 can easily suck all types of small debris without any difficulty.

It is also worth mentioning that this device uses highly efficient filters. However, these filters cannot be washed. Keep that in mind.

Vacuum

The iRobot 880 is indeed a high-end vacuum cleaner. It is the second most sophisticated device launched by the iRobot brand. At an iRobot store, this vacuum cleaner can be bought for $699.99! When you are using this device, you are liberated from the worries of charging it as it is capable of self-charging. The Roomba 880’s multiple-room navigation features allow it to efficiently clean up to three rooms comfortably.

In terms of style, the Roomba 880 is not very different from iRobot’s current design pattern. This device gives you a rounded look and comes with a power button fixed in the middle. The design structure of the Roomba 880 goes on to suggest that the manufacturers are largely interested in keeping their tradition of Roomba’s minimalist design, and sturdy construction.

Usability

Easy usability is one of the many great things about the Roomba 880. All you need to do is to set the device on spot clean, regular clean, or your own schedule. It’ll do the job just fine. There are certain accessories that you can rely on to ensure the smooth usability of the Roomba 880.

Performance

In terms of performance, the 880 is just great. It has built-in sensors that can function flawlessly. Users can also use virtual walls or lighthouses so that the device is confined only to the areas that you want to visit.

Final Opinion on Roomba 880

Having had a review of the Roomba 880, let us now proceed to the second device Roomba 960.

Review: Roomba 960

The fact that the Roomba brand name has become synonymous with the robot vacuum goes on to prove the success of the iRobot. You can clearly see why this is so when iRobot’s Roomba 960 cleans the floor for you.

This device is the company’s one of the elite offerings and the device is inclusive of features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, navigation through a camera, smartphone app controllability, and voice control. Let’s look at the device in a more detailed manner.

Design Of Roomba 960

All the successive generations of the Roomba robots have been designed on more or less the same pattern as the first-generation Roomba robots. However, the successive Roomba robots are an improvement on the previous models in terms of specifications and features.

This device is 13.8 x 3.6-inches into measurement with a weight of about 8.5lbs. One can clearly notice a huge ‘clean’ button that is eminently fixed between the ‘spot cleaning’ and ‘home’ buttons on the top of the device. These buttons allow users to manually handle the vacuum cleaner. However, using hands-free methods could be more advantageous. The Roomba 960’s navigation is made easier by a camera that is embedded at the device’s front. Also, one could use the dustbin that is attached to its back.

Hurdle-Free Functionality

The smoothness of the device is one of the most prominent features that make it highly useful. When you are using the Roomba 960, it will barely hit an object. The device never tries to roll over anything that clutters its path. The sensors will detect the object, allowing the Roomba 960 to come up with the best possible way to do the cleaning around it.

In buildings with multiple floor types, the Roomba smoothly transits from one type of floor to another. The device is capable of going from the lip between the hardwood entryway and the living-room carpet without facing any challenge.

Users can put in place the vacuum cleaner’s ‘Virtual Wall Barrier’ to prevent it from going into the areas that you don’t want it to clean. This wall barrier emits a cone-shaped barrier that is visible only to the Roomba. In other words, the Roomba 960 features excellent functionality free of obstacles and hurdles.

Duration Of Battery & Controlling Through Mobile

The Roomba 960 has the ability to operate between 70 to 75 minutes on a single charge. If the cleaning is pending, and the battery runs low, the device returns to the dock for a recharge and gets back to the job once the charging is finished. This goes on until there is no more cleaning to be done.

Generally, the cleaning span of a traditional space is about 45 to 60 minutes. That also depends on how dirty the floor is. The Roomba has a dust bin attached to its bath which keeps filling during the vacuuming process. If it is filled before the cleaning is over, the device notifies the owner through a phone alert.

The user can then pause the cleaning from the app, clear the dust bin and then resume the cleaning process. All can be done from the application on the smartphone. If you have placed the cleaning pass to automatic, the Roomba device will be able to successfully do the cleaning of areas such as downstairs flooring, picking up debris, etc.

Multi-Stage Cleaning

Just as its predecessors, the Roomba 960 comes equipped with the AeroForce 3-stage cleaning ability.  For all practical reasons, this capability is the same as the one in the 800 series. However, the only difference is that in Roomba 960, this is far more powerful than it was in the older models of the Roomba.

The device is capable of producing 5 times air suction power. This allows it to suck in hard-to-eliminate pet hair or debris. There are two rubber brushes extractors which enable the device to generate this much power. This iRobot includes side-spinning brushes which facilitate the cleaning of the edges so that your rug fringe and general edge dirt problems are taken care of.

Strong Optical Sensors

Just like the Roomba 800 series, strong optical sensors are also installed in the Roomba 960. There are also acoustic sensors. These powerful sensors enable the Roomba to differentiate between the rug and the hardwood floor.

Though this device also has a persistent pass but the Roomba 960 has a straight-line pattern to follow. The manufacturer’s update is why this happens. In addition to having tracking sensors, iRobot 960 also features vSLAM technology which enables the device to better its cleaning efficiency.

Final Verdict

If you are looking for a vacuum cleaner which is capable of cleaning an entire level, there is very little chance you will find something better than the iRobot models. This amazing capability comes in addition to the iRobot’s strength to efficiently clean multiple floors with different surfaces. Whether you need the Roomba to clean a black carpet or you want it for removing a rug’s filth.

The fact that these Roomba’s can support Wi-Fi connected remote control using an Android or iOS-enabled device should be a sufficient reason for you to get them.

Even though both Roomba 880 and 960 are advanced level vacuum cleaners, there are still differences between them. Being the most newly introduced iRobot device on the market, the Roomba 960 is more reliable and better as compared to the Roomba 880.

We think so because, despite being equipped with the same accessories, the Roomba 960 has capabilities to perform the cleaning with much greater force and strength when compared to the older Roomba 880.

The iRobot Roomba 614 vs 650 is one that we have covered many times but never in great detail. It has always been about a general overview of the two models rather than concrete differences between the two. That is what we will be addressing in this article. The 600 series caused quite a stir when it was first announced. It came with a host of revolutionary features that went on to define the next generation of roombas.

In this article, we’ll first discuss the common features that each of these roombas shares and then we’ll move onto 5 main differences between the two to see which one comes out on top

Common Features of the Roomba 614 v 650

These models share a lot of common features, which are important to mention just so you know what you’re getting with your purchase. Below is a comprehensive list of features that can be found in both the 614 and the 650.

Roomba 614

3 Step Cleaning Process

Both the 650 and the 614 come with the 3 stage cleaning process that is now so commonly found in many automatic vacuums. The three stage cleaning process was so successful that it became incorporated in all future roombas. The 3 stage cleaning process includes agitate, brush, and suction. Each of these steps is equally important and helps the roomba to clean as effectively as possible. To show you exactly why these steps are important, a brief description is necessary.

The first stage, agitate, makes use of the roomba’s dual brushes in wide angles. This stage ensures that all the large particles of dust, dirt, and other debris are agitated and shaken loose. This is a very vital stage as it ensures that no debris remains trapped on the floor, no matter what type of floor it might be. The second stage is the brush stage in which the roomba shakes lose all the smaller particles and exposed them to being sucked up. This stage is important if your roomba is cleaning on carpet and you want to make sure that the carpet is as clean as possible. After both of these stages the final stage takes place which is the suction stage. The suction stage makes sure that all of the debris that has been shaken loose, whether it be small or big, is collected by the roomba. This is the stage that makes sure that nothing is left behind once the roomba moves on to new areas.

Triple Brush Action

Both the roombas that we are discussing feature three separate brushes that are uniquely equipped to handle the tasks that they are meant for. The brushes that these roombas have can be divided into two. The first division includes the dual brushes that handle the brunt of the bottom brushing and sweeping. The other division, on the other hand, includes the sweeping edge brush which is a very important addition to the roomba.

The dual brushes handle most of the 3 stage process that was described before. They are in charge of both agitation and brushing and ensure that the area under the roomba becomes as clean as possible. The dual brushes work in unison and make sure that no dust, dirt, or debris is left behind after ghetto roomba moves on to a new area.

The sweeping edge brush, on the other hand, is better suited for cleaning around the roomba rather than under it. If you’ve ever taken a close look at the design of roombas you’ll notice that they are circular in shape. That may make them perfect for cleaning underneath them but it makes them incapable of cleaning around them. That is where the edge brush comes in. The brush extends from the roomba and cleans around it, making sure to reach the places that the roomba itself cannot reach. This includes under furniture, around obstacles, and even on furniture.

Dirt Detection Technology

Both of these roombas are fitted with dirt detection technology that actively tells them where dirt lies. This is accomplished through the range of visual sensors that the roomba hosts. These cameras get a layout of the room and allow the roomba to see where the most dirt resides. The roomba then uses that information and goes to those areas specifically in order to clean as effectively as possible. This dirt detection technology was so important at that time that it became part of all future roombas and was improved with further models to further increase the effectiveness of future models.

Automatic Recharge

Both of these roombas feature the automatic recharge feature that allows the roomba to know when its battery is about to run out. It then hurries over to the charging dock that you have placed all by itself.  It will dock automatically and stay there until it’s full. After that, it will let you know when it’s ready to be used again, or if you’ve set a schedule for it will follow that schedule and clean automatically.

Aeroforce Suction

Both of these roombas come with the proprietary Aeroforce suction that enables the roombas to be as effective as they are. The suction is far better than any ordinary vacuum cleaner and ensures that nothing is left behind once the roomba moves on to a new are. Now this suction was improved in future models but it is still pretty great because it’s still better than traditional vacuum cleaners.

iAdapt Navigation Technology

The 600 series was notable for its excellent navigation capabilities. Instead of cleaning in what seems like a random pattern, the roomba actually makes a path that ensures the best cleaning process. The roomba uses all the sensors that it has in order to formulate a map of the room. It then takes into account any obstacles that can be usually found in the room. After all of this, the roomba calculates the best possible path to take when cleaning.  This way the more a roomba cleans a room, the better it gets at it. This technology makes it so that the roomba practices its cleaning process every time it cleans and each time it gets a little better at it, eventually becoming able to clean the room with maximum effectiveness.

Differences Between the Roomba 614 vs 650

That’s it for the similarities between the two roombas. They may have a lot of similar features, but they are also wildly different from each other. This can be seen clearly because of one of the greatest features that roombas have to offer.

[su_button url=”https://www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-650-Robot-Vacuum/dp/B008LX6OC6/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=roomba614vs650-20&linkId=e84fa630b5f6be60fa7604c2d2ea683d&language=en_US” target=”blank” style=”flat” background=”#32CC32″ color=”#ffffff” size=”10″ wide=”no” center=”no” radius=”8″ icon=”icon:shopping-cart” rel=”nofollow” class=”bestvacbutton”]Check Best Price and Reviews for 650[/su_button]

Roomba 650

Virtual Walls

Virtual walls are truly an innovative technology purely because of all the ways that they can be used.  This is one technology that requires a little technical detail. The 650 has all the sensors that the 614 has but it has one additional sensor. It is one that allows it to see a specific type of infrared light. This light is visible to only the 650 and it has one purpose… to stop the roomba. The virtual wall is a device that transmits an infrared ray of light that makes the roomba believe that the light is actually a wall. It basically stops the roomba from crossing the light and confines it. This technology can be used for a variety of reasons if you want to stop the roomba from going into another room, if you want the roomba to focus on one specific area, or if you want to stop it from bumping into an obstacle. The possibilities are endless with virtual walls which is why it is such a big difference between the two.

Price

Another obvious difference between the two is the price at which they are offered. The 650 will end up costing you a bit more, whereas you can find the 614 for much less at most stores. Click here to check price of the Roomba 650 and head here for the Roomba 614 price. The reason for the difference in price is because of the features. The 650 simply has more to offer and that can be evidenced in the price. Some people might argue that price shouldn’t be included in the list of important differences but we disagree. Price is the single most important factor that decides whether you will end up purchasing something or not. Some things are only worth what you are willing to pay for them and that is the case with these two roombas. Do you feel that the additional features make up for the difference in price? Every person’s answer to this question will be different so it is important to highlight that these two roombas are actually different in price because that will ultimately influence you into purchasing them or not.

Scheduling

The 650 comes with the added feature of being able to be programmed to follow a certain schedule. This is quite a unique feature as it allows you to set the parameters that you require to completely automate this cleaning machine. The scheduling feature allows you to set up a time for the roomba to do its job. This time will act like an alarm for it and as soon as that time is reached the roomba will start cleaning all by itself. This is a very useful feature because you can set up the roomba to work any time that you want it to. You can have it clean your home when you’re away, at work, on vacation, etc. The possibilities of using this feature are endless and are a very important one to consider if you plan on being away a lot and still expect your home to be spick and span when you head back.

Energy Efficiency

Both the 614 and the 650 use different types of batteries which may seem strange as they are made by the same manufacturer. However, one of these batteries is arguably better than the other. The 650 uses the traditional lithium-ion battery, which is known to be reliable and energy efficient. The 614, on the other hand, utilizes lithium polymer batteries which may look the same but definitely do not work the same way. Lithium polymer batteries are known to store less energy than lithium-ion batteries which is a huge difference in our book. It basically means that the 650 will last longer on the same charge than the 614. This is an important difference to consider if you plan on using the roomba regularly and expect it to finish its job in a timely manner.

Dirt Detection

The 650 does not have the technology known as advanced dirt detection but it is better than the 614 at detecting debris in a room. This is mainly because of the sensors that the 650 has at its disposal. The 650 comes with a lot more sensors, and those are also better than the 614’s so it ends up making a difference. The 650 is able to clean rooms more thoroughly and ensure that no debris is left behind, no matter where it is hidden.

In any case, these are some of the features that separate these models from all others. We’ll go over some common features between the two before moving on to the differences so that you have a rough idea of what to expect from them.

Common Features of the Roomba 960 vs 980

[su_button url=”https://www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-960-Connectivity-Carpets/dp/B01ID8H6NO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=roomba960vs980-20&linkId=aa634c9473cf637d18d6610db0606a76&language=en_US” target=”blank” style=”flat” background=”#32CC32″ color=”#ffffff” size=”10″ wide=”no” center=”no” radius=”8″ icon=”icon:shopping-cart” rel=”nofollow” class=”bestvacbutton”]Check Best Price and Reviews[/su_button]Roomba 960

Since we’ve covered the basic roomba features time and again, we’re going to ignore them for the most part. Instead, the common features will be focused on what sets these two roombas apart from the rest and why they are the top of the line models.

Wi-Fi and Smart Home Connectivity

This is one of the best features to come from iRobot and is one that cannot be ignored. Both of these roombas have the ability to communicate with your smart home which means you can use your Alexa to control the roomba. You can schedule it to follow a time, see what it’s doing in real-time, and immediately send it to clean any part of the house that you want. You can also see if it gets stuck on something or if its bags are full. All of these reasons and more make this a really attractive feature that can be found in both of the roombas.

HEPA Filters

It took iRobot a few iterations to get this feature into their robots which is why this feature is a big deal. Both of these roombas come with HEPA filters which are essential for anyone that has allergies to dust, hair, or ash. Any of these things can set off allergic reaction and the addition of HEPA filters to both of these models is a godsend. The filters also make the air much nicer to breathe so it’s a feature that cannot be ignored.

Advanced Dirt Detection Technology

Both the iRobot Roomba 980 and the Roomba 960 come with a host of audio and visual sensors that help it to detect what is around them. This comes in handy when the roombas are cleaning because it allows them to actively see where the most dirt lies. That way they can target those areas specifically with more robust cleaning so that no debris is left behind. This feature is important if your pet has a favorite spot to lie down, that area can become clogged with hair. This feature ensures that every area of the house will be evenly clean.

iAdapt Navigation 2.0

One of the more notable differences between these two and other, older models of roombas is the way that these two moves. As you well know, previous models of roombas move in a very erratic and random pattern. This has led people to complain that they aren’t cleaning as well as they should. That problem does not exist with these two models. They both use a wide range of sensors that they have to formulate an actual map of your living space. They then follow the map religiously. In every room, you’ll notice them cleaning in a very systematic manner. They don’t just randomly move, they actually go from top to bottom just so that they don’t miss even a single speck of debris.

Cliff Detection

This is one of the other features that sets these apart from the rest of the roombas. The cliff detection technology installed in these roombas is so advanced that instead of just avoiding all edges, the roomba can actually see whether there’s an actual drop or if there is anything on the floor that is fooling its sensors. This allows the roomba to move much more freely and be fearless when it is cleaning.

Brushless Rollers

Older roomba models used to have a different kind of roller that sometimes left behind marks when the roomba cleaned. These marks were most prominent on softwood floors but could also be seen on carpet. That problem is also non-existent now. Both of these roombas come outfitted with brushless rollers that do not leave behind marks on any floor that they clean on. If you’ve had expensive flooring done then give these roombas a shot.

Advanced Multi-Room Navigation

Not a lot of the previous roombas are able to clean your whole house by themselves. These two can. They are able to navigate more than 2000ft2 which is more than enough. That is per level which means that if you have a three-story house with that much space per level, neither of these roombas will have any problems with cleaning the entire thing. It can also effortlessly move from one room to the other so it won’t need any help with the cleaning. This feature makes these roombas completely autonomous, which is exactly why you would want to buy a roomba.

Basic Features

Apart from all of these, both of these roombas come with a host of other features that seem so basic compared to the more prominent features that these roombas have. They both have 3 stage cleaning, scheduling, and automatic recharge and a lot more but these features do not seem worth mentioning just because of all that these roombas are capable of doing. So if you can think of a feature that previous roombas had then both of these roombas have it but better.

9 Important Differences between the Roomba 960 vs 980

Roomba 980[su_button url=”https://www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-Vacuum-Connectivity-Carpets/dp/B013E9L4ZS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=roomba960vs980-20&linkId=69c09ac26e7028128bbc5cea87c3c73d&language=en_US” target=”blank” style=”flat” background=”#32CC32″ color=”#ffffff” size=”10″ wide=”no” center=”no” radius=”8″ icon=”icon:shopping-cart” rel=”nofollow” class=”bestvacbutton”]Check Best Price and Reviews[/su_button]

Here are 9 of the most important differences between the two roomba models. These differences can help you decide which model is the best for you and which one is worth the price.

Carpet Boost Technology

Carpet boost is the most innovative technology that iRobot has to offer. It is currently only available in the Roomba 980, the i7, and the i7+. If you haven’t heard of the i7s then don’t fret, they are the newest automatic vacuum cleaners from iRobot. They are quite literally the definition of top of the line and include so many incredible features that you can’t even imagine what most of them do. Carpet boost is one of those top of the line technology that is found in the 980 but not in the 960. The technology basically allows the roomba to clean carpets at an unprecedented level of efficiency.

This technology may seem very subtle, and it is, but the effects that it has on the cleaning prowess of the roomba. As soon as the roomba detects that it is cleaning on carpet it kicks up the suction to full, allowing it to suck up even the most hard to clean debris on the floor. This feature is excellent for people with pets because it quite literally leaves no trace behind so you won’t have to worry about pet hair ever again. The 960 has no such feature and cleans every surface evenly rather than adapting to different surfaces.

Battery Life

The battery life of both of these models is different despite being the same type of battery. They both have Lithium-Ion batteries installed so we won’t have to get into which type of battery is better. (It’s Lithium-Ion). We can just go over how long each of these individual batteries lasts. The 980 boasts a battery life of two hours whereas the battery life of the 960 is about 75 minutes. That is quite a difference between the two so if you have a house that requires a while to clean you might want to look at this difference. The 960 almost has half the battery life as the 980, which means that it will need to recharge more, do more trips around the house, and basically do everything that every low battery life vacuums do.

Virtual Walls

Both the 960 and the 980 come with virtual walls but the 960 only comes with one whereas the 980 comes with two. It isn’t that big of a difference but it counts because it limits how you can use the roomba. With two virtual walls, you can essentially control exactly where the roomba can and can’t go, whereas with just one wall you can only sort of guide it.

Motor

The Roomba 960 comes with the motor that has been used in previous roomba models. It is old and reliable, but it also means that it is slower than the new motor that has been specifically designed for the 980. The 980 comes with a newly designed motor that is more powerful than the old one, which means that it is able to clean much more effectively.

Aeroforce Suction

All iRobot roombas use a technology called Aeroforce suction which is what enables the roomba to suck up dirt, dust, and debris. The 960 features an Aeroforce suction with 5 times the power of previous roombas whereas the 980 has a suction that contains strength 10 times that of previous roombas. That really factors into how well they are adapted to cleaning. The 980 has a clear advantage with this feature because it can clean so much more effectively because it can pick up even the smallest of debris very easily.

Noise

This is one of the features that is in favor of the 960. As mentioned above, the 960 has the same motor as previous roomba models. That particular motor produces a sound which comes in at 65 decibels. The newest motor, the one that is installed in the 980, is more powerful and thus is louder. The new motor comes in at 70 decibels which isn’t that much louder than the other one but it still makes a difference. If you’re prone to being annoyed by noise or plan to be at home when the roomba is cleaning, then you should give each of these a noise test, or at least look on up on Youtube. The noise that they make can make a huge difference between them being useful and them being annoying.

Weight

There is also a slight difference in weight between the two roombas. The 960 weighs about 8.5 pounds whereas the 980 weighs 8.7 pounds. We know the difference isn’t much but it can play a factor in how easy the roomba is to move around, and how stable it is. The roomba with more weight will be more stable whereas the lighter one will be easier to move around. The difference isn’t great but it can still have an impact on the operational efficiency of the two roombas.

Aesthetics

There are a few design differences between the two models but the most prominent one is the outer casing of the roomba. The 980 has a much more polished look when compared to the 960. The 960 looks very boring in comparison because the outer shell of the roomba is duller than the 980s. The 980 looks like a modern cleaning appliance and looks like it is worth something, whereas the 960 can be mistaken for a lot of the older models.

Price

The greatest difference of all is the price of each of the roombas. The 960 will end up costing you less,  whereas the 980 will cost you a bit more. Generally, it’s about a $200 difference. The huge price difference can be attributed to the fact that the 980 is designed to be a status symbol and it is one of the best roombas of all time. It has everything apart from self-cleaning bins and that is why it is priced so much higher than the 960.

Our Pick – A Toss Up!

It’s hard to pick either one over the other because they each justify their price. They both have great base features and the features that set them apart are also pretty awesome. In this we’ll have to abstain from picking because we just can’t make a decision. As for which one you should opt for, the decision is completely yours. If you can justify the extra $200, then jump right in for the 980, but if you feel that the extra features are nothing more than fluff then go for the 960. In the end it won’t matter which one you choose because both of them are prime cleaning machines that will not let you down.

Roomba iRobot 600 Series

The Roomba has been releasing this robot series for many years. This series has remained amazingly popular with iRobot users worldwide. Before the 600s series, the Roomba has also released older series and there are more series that are now available in the market after the 600s.

The Roomba’s 600 series was introduced in 2012 as a development to the older 500 series. This series introduced an aerovac bin and advanced cleaning head as its standard feature. In the year 2017, the 690 was released that came with Wi-Fi connectivity so that users could use it through a mobile phone application.

Roomba 620 vs 650

These two robots belong to the 600s series released in 2012. Despite the fact that this series has now been replaced by better 800s and 900s series, it is still considered a good option for anyone looking for a quality vacuum on a budget. These two robots happen to be your best choice if you have been looking around for an economical solution.

This blog discusses seven of the most important differences between the two robots. It is important to learn about and understand these differences if you are serious about picking the best one for your needs and requirements.

Here are seven ways that these Roombas differ:

1.  Design

This section talks about the how the Roomba 620 vs 650 are different from one another in terms of design. They appear the same to a common eye but that’s not quite so. There are some essential differences between the design of the two robots.

Design of Roomba 620

This robot has dimensions of 17 x 18 x 5 inches. Its weight is 7.9 pounds. Unlike other Roomba devices currently available in only a black color, the Roomba 620 also comes in white.

The robot’s stylish yet minimalist design will definitely win your heart! There are only three command buttons on the Roomba 620 making it comparatively easier to navigate while cleaning. Unlike other Roomba models, this robot offers a more golden glow instead of green. Watching this sleek device perform its task is a treat in its own right.

The Roomba 620 has been designed to fit in and access even the most hard-to-reach places in a room.

Design Of Roomba 650

The Roomba 650 is the best-selling device of the 600s series. It is also the most carefully and beautifully designed smart floor cleaner. The device has a dark yet attractive look. Unlike Roomba 620, its dimensions are 13.4 x 3.6 x 13.4 inches.

iRobot has a thing for the minimalist design, and they have been the most successful with the Roomba 650. It offers ‘tricky’ cleaning solutions which means that it can access not only ‘hard to clean’ areas but can do so using creative tricks. This model is entirely different from other Roombas and is a great choice no matter what the series.
